What our clients say about us

Mingei International Museum

Hampton joined Mingei International Museum as an Interim CFO at a critical time for the organization. We were closed for a major renovation, deep into capital fundraising and financing, and navigating the early days of the COVID pandemic. Hampton was able to quickly provide financial modeling for the capital project and finalize a bridge loan for project costs. He did a deep analysis of payroll expenses which helped support the decision to raise wages for all employees, while also helping us develop COVID-related operational protocols and capture pandemic relief funds. Finally, he played an essential role in helping to vet candidates for the CFO position and providing transition support to the new hire.

Executive Director, Mingei International Museum

Astra Nova School Logo

Hampton has provided Astra Nova with so much support these past few years! In early 2020, Astra Nova was known as Ad Astra School; it was located on the SpaceX campus and funded by the Musk Foundation; since then we have become an LLC owned by Ad Astra School, an LLC owned by Astra Nova School NPO, and finally an independently funded 501(3)(c). Hampton has been a crucial resource for us amid these many complex transitions. He built the infrastructure we need to run an online school with an international student body and employees working in almost a dozen different states. We’ve benefited tremendously from his wisdom and hard work; we rely on his ability to see the big picture and deal expertly with the nitty-gritty details of running a non-profit organization.

Hampton has been an important part of our continuing success at Balboa Art Conservation Center. He joined us as interim CFO / COO in December 2019, originally brought on to manage the transition period after the retirement of a long-time Executive Director. He navigated the organization through COVID-19, secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in COVID related aid to keep the organization operating, and helped reengage our team during the recruitment for our new Executive Director ( me! ). By the time I inherited the organization it was stabilized, organized, and ready to move forward. He and his team continue to support us with clear an meaningful financial reports, budgets and projections, and a better understand our financial health and plan for sustained growth. Evidence of this is a doubling of our operating budget over the last two years due both to stronger earned revenue planning as well finally being able to clearly showcase our strengths to funders and donors. He has deep experience in the local nonprofit scene and brings a commitment to our mission that is unique among consultants. I cannot overstate the value of Hampton’s work at BACC, both before I got there to set the groundwork for the next Executive Director, and since I have been there to guide me through the tools to succeed at my job. A lot is written these days about organizations transitioning into BIPOC leadership and the many ways a board can fail to set this new leader up for success. Bringing Hampton on was the best decision the board could have made to set me up. Keeping him on as my CFO was one of mine.

Hampton was brought in to support our organization during a time of significant change. Because of his executive-level expertise across multiple functions, he was laser focused on tackling items that would bring the most stability and positive impact to the team. He really saved the day for us!

Executive Director, Townspeople

California Western School of Law

Hampton played a critical role in our transition between CFOs in the fall of 2020. He provided interim services and quickly began adding value to our management team. He helped resolve staffing challenges in the finance department, managed the majority of our annual financial and single audit, cleaned up processes related to federal student aid and extracurricular programs, and his financial modeling led to our decision to forgive nearly $1M in student loans. He was an important part of the hiring process for the new CFO and helped ensure the success of that transition by continuing to support the school for a few additional months.

CFO, California Western School of Law
Board Member, The San Diego Foundation

Tablecloth.io

Hampton is one of the most helpful and valuable CFOs in the San Diego nonprofit space. We worked together during the initial set up of tablecloth.io, where he set up our original accounting system and policies. In the years after, I continue to be impressed with how much he has done to benefit the San Diego community by being an expert at what he calls “all the boring stuff”. He is the only person I know who can explain complex finance topics in a way that makes sense to normal people, which provides incredible value to the nonprofits he works with.

Co-Founder and CEO ( former ), tablecloth.io

The Ecology Center

Hampton delivered tenfold, understood our needs immediately, providing examples of how he had tackled similar issues in the past, and was swift to implement solutions.  As we grew, Hampton grew with us, deeply integrated in our growth patterns and associated needs, he continued to provide strategy, guidance, and became the go-to resource for all of our financial planning and infrastructure needs.  Eventually he assisted our larger corporate objectives, meeting the needs of the Board, Capital Campaigns, and land acquisition projects, providing high-level projections, analysis, and financial modeling.I highly recommend Hampton and his services for a variety of Financial and Operational functions, projects, and initiatives

Director of Operations ( former ), The Ecology Center

Prison Yoga Project

I am not an expert in non-profit financial management. Fortunately, thanks to the support of Hampton and his team, I don’t have to be. I’ve learned so much from them over the past few years, I feel a growing confidence in my ability to make the right decisions to keep our organization financially fit and growing!

Co-Founder and Executive Director, Prison Yoga Project
